Donna is from a tiny village on the northern shores of the Hokianga Harbour, Rangi Point (Paradise). She attended Waitapu Maori School, which had a roll of 13 tamariki in her final year there. Growing up with no electricity, no roads and no running water empowered her and her whanau to become resilient and self sufficient. She was awarded a Maori Scholarship in 1970 and was sent to Napier to attend Hukarere Maori Girls College and Napier Girls High School for 2 years. In 1973 her parents gave into her pleas and she moved home and finished her schooling at Panguru High School.
Donna moved to Auckland at the age of 17 to work as an accounts clerk for UEB Industries. She has since worked in accounting positions with a number of corporate organisations and spent 9 years doing similar work in Sydney, Australia where she worked for an advertising agency.
Donna is married to Christopher Motutere from Te Puna. They have 4 children, 2 whangai and 5 mokopuna.
In 1993 Donna was involved in the establishment of the Pirirakau Hauora and started out as a voluntary community support worker. She is now the Manager and has been with the Hauora for 20 years. Donna is passionate about working with Maori and has met some wonderful people on her journey.

I was lucky enough to be raised by my grandparents not uncommon amongst Maori. This gave me the privilege of living in the hub of my whanau getting to know everyone. With it also I had a great start with Dad being the mara kai guy, with plenty of fresh vegetables, a range of delicious fruits, free ranged eggs, home grown chooks and the home kills were part of my norm. Mum was the processor of the above I never went without. A life I am grateful for.
My life outside of the Hauora includes working as a kaimirimiri, teaching yoga and rongoa plus a myriad of other things. My passions are healing with herbs and sound, alongside delving into many other cost effective easy to use therapies. If there is one thing I have learnt is that this tinana we have is pretty amazing in what it can achieve.
Nga mihi, Kimi
